Comments: Hi, Ellen!!
Just thought I should say HI!!
I dropped out of the church in \'75, suffered few ill affects, but abt 10 years ago, started i-net surfing for info..and of course found a plethora of juicy/sordid details. Enough of that, but I really enjoyed reading about your life....
I\'ve kept up with few classmates. I did see/date Lockietta Greene a bit,(no where nearly enough-I had a crush on her) when she lived in Portland. She told me that her sister Dolores\' husband was revealed to be gay...and I think he later committed suicide...sad!!
I\'ve never married, but have been an outdoor nut, heavily into skiing and my climbing...and am an arborist. I\'ve owned my own small tree service since 1985. http://www.BarnettTreeCare.com
I got serious about photography, and used to make a fair bit from sports (99% skiing)magazine and some commercial/ad sales to ski areas and ski gear companies. Been a bit too busy with my main biz for 10 years now, but still shoot a fair bit, and always have to have the latest gear!
There\'s way to many photos at my main site, ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/rbtree/sets )but you might enjoy this brief slide show of how Snoqualmie Falls appeared during our recent cold snap

Say hi to Kathy for me!!

Comments: I have been enjoying your books for several months now. Thank you for entertaining me as I ride my stationary bike. One day I hope I can meet a person as gifted as you to become my friend. Keep up the great writing. By the way I went from a size 18 to a size 6 reading your book. I wonder if they will ever put reading as a way to lose weight? Cordelia never would unless of course she had a girlfriend that got her excited.

your books are absolutely amazing! I found Vital Lies and Hallowed Murder in the local LGBT center's used book pile and stayed up all night for several days reading them! I've just ordered the next few books in the series and can't wait to read them. Your writing is so vivid, clear, and cozy, and it builds and sustains suspense so well and for such a long time. I'm a very picky mystery reader and you are truly talented and at the top of my list! I am honestly astounded by your beautiful and creative writing. All the best, Lisa

Comments: I read 'Trying hard to hear you' when I was a teen, many years ago now. I really found it interesting but heart breaking. One of my older sisters lent it to me. It is one of those books I will always remember. I just thought of it as someone who was very sad and felt there was no where to turn and ending his life was a way out of the pain,I think a few teenagers can really understand this pain and hopefully there is something or someone in their lives that can change their minds. You wrote a very good book to people with open and understanding minds.

Comments: thank you for years of mystery reading pleasure, wonderings of ''Who Donit'', and laughter. I have each of your Jane and Sophie books and have just added The Iron Girl. I read the authors notes and acknowledgments, as well and this time you mentioned the inspirationally motivating musical talents of ''The Indigo Girls''. This ''GIRL'' group is just that, a GIRL group. At the end of your Author's Note, you thank them and then add, ''You Guys Rock''. This word is used as a catch-all for any persons at work, school, sports, politics, news, etc. In every meeting of any group the participants are addressed as ''You Guys''. I, as a committee of one, chose this day and this time to begin to ask all peoples in a position to reach so many others to help me correct this grammatical error. We women ARE NOT GUYS, we are the GALS/GIRLS. Perhaps you could begin to influence your friends and readers to recognize all of us as individuals and address us and others with some more accurate and fitting terms. Gals, Girls, Women, team, pals, mates, people, associates, workers, kids, folk, partners, lovers, friends, or family, to suggest a few. I can't be the only 60'something lesbian that DOES NOT like to be clumped together in a group called ''YOU GUYS''. I'm hoping you and you staff will keep Jane and Sophie alive and inquisitively active for many years to caome. YOU GALS ROCK!!!

Comments: Enjoy your books very much.Sometimes difficult to buy at local bookshops..so rely on Amazon, Is ''An Iron Girl'' your latest Jane Lawless book? I lived in Sussex, England before coming to Australia 41 years ago so enjoy your English references. I studied History and Eng,Lit at Uni and find detective stories involve the same kind of thinking as historical research. I like the challenge. Again many thanks for your interesting books. Kind regards Ellen Wilkinson.

Comments: I listened to your interview on Armchair Reviews -- and I thought it was very inspiring. I did a search in my library data base for your books and they only carry 8 titles -
I entered the mystery contest through the armchair site - so am hoping I stand a chance to be published. I had fun with this little mini mystery
What was the idea behind the items? and why the different unrelated things? I thought it worked well for a children's mystery but that may be the thing that holds me back as far as winning goes - I wrote it from the children's side using the items. I ended up with 6 of the 8 in my story but they tied in well - of course some of my clues may be corny but they get you through the mystery.
I enjoyed listening to the interview - quite a change of pace for me. I will be looking to read your books soon - when I can clean off some of my plate - 3 pending contests within the next 2 months to enter - lol
Thank you for a delightful listen on the interview - E : )

I want to learn to write suspense, mystery fiction. I'm already working on a novel. I see that you will be teaching a course in mystery writing at the Loft this Fall, 2005. I would like to attend it, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it this Fall. So, maybe you can let me know if you might teach this course again at a later time. Thanks, Alfred Kaye
I read No Reservations Required this summer during my rest from teaching math to high school students. I really liked it! Like you I have always loved reading mystery stories - I remember reading Earle Stanley Gardner's Perry Mason books when I was 7 years old (during summer vacation). You can tell that summer vacation is when I get to read to my heart's content. A lot of people think that I'm just plain weird - loving math and reading equally. I tell them that I'm the normal one; they should be questioning their own sanity. I hope you have a tour date in North Carolina something. I would love to add one of you books to my collection of autographed mystery books (the only type book I usually read) Dallas, NC is about 20 miles northwest from Charlotte. If you be willing to come to Gaston County I will be glad to give all your information to the Friends of the Libray. Thanks! Betty Paysour 104 W. Fields St. Dallas, NC 28034
Doubt that she ''balled her'', hows about ''bawled her out''? Report the copy editor to your editor. Loved the story and was touched by the romance. A good culinary mystery. (I am a collector). Best, Bob

We were wondering if you could tell us who sponsors the Alice B Awards. We are reprinting Sarah Dreher's earlier book, Something Shady and wanted to add copy about the award. However, Sarah is unfortunately no help in researching this. She says it is under a pile of papers. Oh well - she is a wonderful person, if not too well organized. Any help you could give us would be much appreciated. -- Beth Dingman and Claudia Mckay

Man, you're good! I have read several of your books which solidified my idea of writing. When my sister gave me several Jane Lawless books for my birthday years ago,I knew then that I was right-I needed to put down all my adventures on paper. In the past three years I have been insatiable. The words have just flowed from a place I only dreamed existed. So, just resently I've set up a website. www.kateryanmysteries.com.. I've written 5 in a Kate Ryan Mystery series and have countless other novels, novellas or what have you.. Your website is inspirational and quite informative and if I may be so bold as to ask some advise? I've submitted my work, or query letter to a myriad of publishers and agents. Is this the best I should do? I am in unfamiliar territory here. I love to write; published or not, I will never stop writing. I know how busy your day must be. If you could just drop a line or two, I'd be extremely grateful. If not, I understand and please believe me, I've enjoyed visting your web site and reading your books. I love Jane Lawless and Cordelia is just simply.. Cordelia.. Thanks so much for the smile.. Kate
See you then
I JUST READ "DIAL M FOR MEATLOAF "... LOVED IT...IT WAS ONE OF THE MOST ENGROSSING BOOKS ... THANKS FOR SHARING YOU GIFT FOR WRITING.. TAKE CARE , CHARLES
Just one minor correction. On page 273 of "An Intimate Ghost" you write,"...taking a bite of the kolachi." You may be thinking of the plural, 'kolache', the singular is 'kolach'. My grandfather, a professional baker, learned is trade in old Bohemia. keep the great novels coming

I've just completed reading "This Little Piggy Went to Murder". As I read the book I had a strong feeling that you had attended Ambassador College. I was there from 1985-1989. It took me some time to realize how thoroughly corrupt the organization was. I very much enjoyed reading the first book in the Sophie Greenway series. I look forward to reading the rest. Take Care Teresa
How are you doing? I hope the Election comes out w/out too much rancor. Who am I kidding, we passed rancor 4 years ago. I was surprised and pleased that Jesse came out supporting Kerry. I'm not religious but I hope this election comes under the direction and protection of a higher being. I haven't been published yet, sent my queries to Tor, which claims a conection to the same house that publishes your books, plus a dozen others. I love your books, they are so good, so sane and easy to slip into in a world in need of easy places to be. Keep on writing, my friend. Thank you for listening. portia mottola

I'm sure you don't remember me because it's been several years since I took your writer's class. It was at a time when I decided to go back to school and I asked you for an interview for one of my assignments. I'm wondering if you will be teaching another mystery class, south of downtown, in the near future? I have finally finished the manuscript I've been working on for many years. I need to attend a class to learn how to write a querry letter. A good one. I want to submit my mystery story but I think publishing today is even harder than it was a few years back - before internet publishing. I'd rather not look to the internet for publishing because I don't think it gives the kind of credibility you get with acceptance from a publisher. I hope the opportunity is still there for new mystery writers. I took good notes during your class but I'm living between two places right now and my notes are one of many things I can't find. I'm not sure where to start with the querry letter. I do remember your saying to submit the first chapter of your manuscript with a solid querry letter. I do understand that if they even look at your work, the querry letter better grab them or you can forget it. I saw in your classes & events that you will be in Superior, Wisconsin on October 28th. I plan to be in the Duluth/Superior area that weekend. I'm planning to take Thursday the 28th off work and stop by J.W. Beecroft's. Maybe I'll have a chance to say Hello. Thank you, Ruth Delbow
Your book "Wicked Games" was recommended to me by the owner of Womencrafts, my favorite store in Provincetown. I bought it, read it and loved it. Can't wait to read another one! ------Mary M.

Comments: HI PAT!!! It's me, Lynn. Remember, we used to work together for Velma Van der Veer? Much water under de bridge! I heard from Francie Jones Loper about your books and have read some. Congratulations on making a living at what you love! I have been a Special Ed teacher for 10 years. But those bad boys about killed me off this school year so I am looking for the"best job of my life" now. I am in the process of moving to Gulf Shores, AL right now from Georgia. I've been married to Alan Barnes for 30 years and have two kids--Maureen is 24 and was married 1 year ago and Ben is 22 and just graduated from Sav. College of Art & Design in graphic design. He's living and working in Atlanta. Most of my family lives in the outskirts of Atlanta. I truly enjoyed your book about Sophie at Ambassador College. You are so clever. Tell Kathy I said hi. I never knew her very well but I believe she got to know my buddy Trisha Newcomb Svehla. Trisha is a mover and shaker now around Chicago. As a matter of fact, some of us girlfriends get together every 1-2 years to visit. In August I will be going to Baltimore to see Charlotte Cordell Whitting, Trisha, Kay Jantzen Schreiber and maybe even a guest appearance from Yollette Merritt. I wish you much success and happpiness

For shame on you. Comments: So, I decided to brush up my English, learn how to properly use the always-hard-to-learn-in-any-language prepositions. After reading Animal Farm by Orwell, thinking that by starting with a children's book it would test my level of the English language, my friend had recommended I read The Merchant of Venus, a 380-some page novel -- boy, what a task, I thought! But then I said: what the heck, let's face the challenge. And wow! What a page-turner that book was for me, not to mention that I fell in love with Cordelia -- she's sooooooo funny! I know you must have heard a zillion times how good a writer you are, how creative the twists you find to each and every phase of each book is, and so forth. So, I guess I am just another fan to add to the list. Keep up the good work. And I'll keep practicing my English with your books (I know; I know. There still is lots of improvement to make!)
